Descendants of Dircks "De Noorman" Volckertzen

Generation No. 1

     1.  Dircks "De Noorman"1 Volckertzen was born in Netherlands or Norway, and died April 04, 1678 in Noorman's Kill, New Amsterdam, New York.  He married Christina Vigne, daughter of Guillain La Vigne and Adriene Cuvelier.  She was born Abt. 1612 in Valenciennes, France, and died Abt. 1668 in New Amsterdam, New York.

Notes for Christina Vigne:

Christine, sometimes called Christina, was born about 1610-1613. This would have made her somewhere between ten and fourteen years old when she arrived in America. Little has been written about her, other than that she married Dirck in 1630 or 1631, and bore eight or nine children. Dirck and Christine lived in her parents' household until 1638. She was a sponsor in baptisms at the Dutch Reformed Church in 1643 and 1650. The rest of her story must be inferred from what we know about her husband and children. Her last child, Jennekin, was born in 1653. There was no further record of her after 1663, although she may have lived into the 1670's.

     73.  Charles Mark9 Noble (Ann Eliza8 Grayson, Sarah7 Stuart, Sarah Elizabeth6 Fulkerson, Derick5, Volkert4 Volkertsen, Dirck3 Volckertzen, Volkert Dirckse2, Dircks "De Noorman"1)19 was born February 11, 1851, and died February 09, 1924 in Alto, Richland Parish, Louisiana.  He married Agatha Virginia Faulk19,20,21 September 08, 1875 in Charleyville (Alto), Richland Parish, Louisiana22, daughter of Robert Faulk and Susan Williams.  She was born April 22, 1857 in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, and died June 26, 1934 in Alto, Richland Parish, Louisiana.

Notes for Charles Mark Noble:

The author's grandfather, Frank Elwin Morgan II, recalled of Charles Noble:  "He and Frank Hatch owned most of the best land west of the Beouf River.  Two or two and a half bales to the acre was normal.  They would furnish a plot of land, mules, plowes, etc. to a negro for one year.  He would then grow cotton and when harvested he would then take it to Mr. Noble's gin.  Mr. Noble would then sell the cotton.  They would add up all of the man's purchases at Mr. Noble's store and then settle both accounts and left over cash at the same time.  An opportunity to farm with Mr. Noble or Frank Hatch was very much prized by the people of that area.  The banks at Rayville, Mangham and Alto (all in Richland Parish) were owned by the two men. He enjoyed the respect of everyone in the area."  His tombstone shows him being born on February 1, 1851; however, the correct date, according to a family bible, is February 11.

Notes for Agatha Virginia Faulk:

She lived in Charleyville, which is near Alto, Louisiana.  "Ma Noble" is remembered as being a very dear lady and one with a heart of gold.  She raised her two granddaughters, Ginny and Mutsy, after their mother had died at the young age of 24.

Notes for Virginia Noble Vaughan:

The author of this history remembers his grandmother, "Ginny", with the fondest memories and as much love as a grandson could have.  She appears as five years old in the 1910 census of Richland Parish.  After being married to Frank Morgan he then married Pete Koerner (he died before she).  She received her education from Whitworth College at Brookhaven, Mississippi and later her nursing training at Charity Hospital in Natchez, Mississippi.  She spent most of her later life in Jackson and was a member of the Capital Street United Methodist Church. Her funeral services were at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville, Louisiana later followed by internment near her childhood home at the Alto Church.  The cemetery is situated in one of the most lovely southern settings possible with a white traditional church surrounded by mighty oaks covered with Spanish Moss. She is missed dearly by the entire family.
